Christmas I Spy Jars

Well my trip to the dollar store to get 2 things ended up in a 40 dollar shopping spree for Christmas craft items! Oh well now I don't have to go back in the Christmas rush! I was inspired by the items I bought to create some I Spy Jars for my sensory shelf!

I found these cute plastic jars!
Safe and nicely decorated!

Then I saw these styrofoam balls!
Well that just sceamed I Spy Jars to me!

Then I grabbed all the little things I could put inside!

Gotta have some of the glitter pom poms & glitter!

I had this left over from last year!

I got these at a garage sale!

So all of this and a tad more went into each jar!

See the stuff in there?!

Remember not to over fill with the styrofoam balls or it's too hard to see the items inside.
This can be done with coloured rice - plastic beads - or any other fill!

Don't forget to glue the lid shut with hot glue or thick white glue!

  1. This is a great idea. Thinking I'll modify it a bit and hide the sight words or ABC's in a jar/bottle filled with Christmas things (tinsel, etc.) Thanks.

  2. Great idea...to add to it, I think Im going to take a picture of everything I put in there and make it into a laminated card so the kids will see what they are looking for.

  3. Both awesome ideas! Thanks for adding those extension ideas! Post a picture when you are done so we can see!

  4. Oh, I love this! It looks like such fun - and those jars were an absolute find.

  5. Thanks Naxi - They were a great surprise find - I was thrilled when I saw them because I didn't have good plastic jars in my stash!

  8. Oh how fun! I've considered making I Spy jars before, but never got around to it. I'm headed to the Dollar Tree this afternoon--perhaps I'll find some fun stuff for one!

I love what I've seen of your blog so far...I'm your newest follower!

  9. Great idea. Now I need to find those balls. Thanks for sharing!

  10. Welcome and glad you like the jars!

  11. We made "regular" I spy bottles this year...but Christmas ones are an awesome idea!!! Would you please share this with our readers for Fun Stuff Fridays? http://www.toysinthedryer.com/2011/12/fun-stuff-fridays-2.html

  12. Great idea! I keep meaning to make some sort of I Spy activity for my kiddos but I just never get around to it. Do you tell them what to look for or do they just find the items on their own?

  13. I used to add a list and even photo lists with my I Spy Jars - but I find the kids just like to be surprised! It seems to be more fun when they simply 'discover' what's inside!

  14. I just wanted to let you know I featured this way cool jars at TGIF Linky Party - http://livinglifeintentionally.blogspot.com/2011/12/tgif-linky-party-8.html. Come on over and grab an I was Featured button & link up what you've been doing this week!
